The Dam Inn is a welcome relief after a walk around Newmillardam. The pub has been recently refurbished and we heard it was dog friendly, we contacted them in advance and were told dogs were allowed in the bar area. With the same menu being provided throughout, although a carvery is offered on Sunday. We went in through a side door, there was level access but it was narrow and a couple of doors to navigate, we found the bar area pretty quickly and we were able to choose a table easily, near the fire, and settled there, especially as it was the depths of winter.

Ordering and paying is at the bar, they bring the food to your table. I ordered a pot of tea, halloumi and avocado sandwich, followed by a fruit (plum) crumble with custard. I couldn't complain about any aspect of it. Betty was given water for her bowl and they were happy with her being under our table, she is a bit of barker, so it is always a concern when we go anywhere that she may (*will) bark, but we were able to situate her under the table so she couldn’t be too disturbed.

One downside to our visit were the toilets. Unfortunately the disabled toilet had been used and left in a terrible state, meaning I chose not to go. Although my sister and brother-in-law went to their respective toilets during our visit, and said they were very nice. The toilet was standard disabled toilet - but would need to be checked before considering using.

I would definitely go again, the food was nice, the staff were nice and they were definitely content with dogs being inside.

Tip - contact in advance to be sure of no other bookings.
