Colter: The True Story of the Best Dog I Ever Had

In 2015 I got a dog and my life changed completely.

It was the first time in many years we had had a pet, let alone one with such a big commitment as a puppy. I remember vividly the first night listening to her whining in her little box, training her to go to the toilet in the places I wanted and the first time trying to teach her simple commands such as sit and lie down, but after the initial worry of how to look after her, everything from then on has been a blast.

My little dog is a Miniature Dachshund, who is stubborn, clever, a barker, loving and most of all my best friend. I enjoy taking her on walks trying out different places around Yorkshire, where we live. However, there is one stipulation, all walks have to be accessible, as I (a person with dwarfism) use a scooter, meaning the hills and mountains are unfortunately (or fortunately in the case of her little legs) off limits, but thankfully we live in an area with a wide range of accessible Country Parks, National Parks, wetlands, fields, lakes, racecourses and plenty more, so at the minute our 'pot' of destinations is endless. We have even set ourselves a challenge of frequenting as many dog friendly pubs and/or restaurants at the locations we visit.

Every time I visit somewhere, I feel compelled to take a picture to mark where we have been, and decided to put these pictures in a blog, to remember and also as an opportunity to 'evaluate' the location on whether it is dog and/or scooter friendly. There will be some other solo adventures such as foreign holidays where unfortunately she can't come, but during these times she will be in the capable and loving care of family (she gets spoilt in these places so no need to worry).

So this blog is just that, and now, the story begins...
