The scooter

This post is an interval of the usual posts to give details of the trusty mobility scooter.

My mobility scooter is an Invacare Colibri, it has been adapted to suit me with a shorter wheelbase, lower seat and lower tiller, all to fit my height and reach. This was achieved by a mobility adaptations centre, they were very accommodating to my request - I would ensure you get things measured accurately to make sure everything is good for you.

The scooter has four, sturdy wheels, which can and have managed many terrains, although I wouldn’t recommend grass in wet weather for any scooter. I have also attached to the scooter a foldable dog bowl, bag to hold dog poo bags, drinks holder and phone holder, all come in handy when we go on a day trip.

To help transport alone the scooter has a bracket fit for the car, with the car having a hoist to match. Again, this would be a discussion between yourself and the adaptations company to find what is the best option for you.

I don’t know how older dogs being introduced to a scooter would work, however, as Betty was brought up with the scooter she has no problem walking alongside. I use a standard lead, held around my wrist to walk her.

The scooter is not only used for walks with Betty, but for other things too such as shopping, travel abroad and just simply allowing me to keep pain levels down and maintain energy levels throughout the day. It has been one of my better purchases and allows that element of freedom.
