This is an ideal local walk, where you want to get out, but not travel too far, or even walk too far. But is also suitable for picnic and opportunity to have a relaxed day in the sun.

We’ve been a number of times to Purston Park, once we parked in a further away carpark where you had to go over the field, which wasn’t too bad in my scooter, but I can imagine would be difficult if the ground was wet. The rest of the times we have been we parked in the carpark nearest the path, the carpark is quite small, however free and within easy access to the pathways, but be careful of other cars.

Taking the path clockwise round where you pass the lovely little garden area which is tended to by locals and really does bring a burst of colour particularly looking lovely in the spring/summer. Along the path you pass the skatepark, which does have a fence around and so there is no bicycle or scooter careering off into your pathway. Continuing along the field which has a couple of benches situated for regular breaks and towards the small pond area which also has a path around, in a way it is adjacent to the main path but is a circular route and meets back up. But, be careful of birds, particularly nesting birds, as there were quite a few ducklings toddling around and they had no fear, even of Betty! This will then send you back towards you started from, passing a play park area for the kids, right back to the carpark.

All in all the pathway is quite stable and firm underfoot, the scooter managed it fine and there is very little incline at any point. There is a lot of field area and would be a lovely place to stop for a picnic and take in the sun and fresh air, it would also be plenty of space for dogs to have a bit of extra lead and explore the area a little. However, if there was lots of rain I can imagine it would be quite boggy.

We’ll definitely be back, we like this short walk as it’s not far from home and it’s one for just getting out of the house all year round.

Tip - this would be a nice place for a picnic in the summer.
