Situated in Silkstone, Barnsely, Pot House Hamlet is a lovely place to visit for a bite to eat, and wander round a few shops including a garden centre and pet shop, there is also a small petting farm area with goats and a peacock.
The Potting Shed Bistro is a well visited place to eat, serving a wide variety of food from soup to burgers or fish & chips, it also a large cake counter and a selection of ice creams or gelato which I would highly recommend. The bistro is located over two floors, with the dog section on the lower floor, accessible via a ramp from the outside (the upper level is also accessible via a ramp but I haven’t been up to that section), the furniture is the style of old barn with wooden benches/chairs and wooden farmhouse tables. It can get quite busy so I would recommend visiting in a quieter time as moving around can be somewhat difficult, and also, if you have a dog like Betty - who likes to let everyone know she is in town - it will limit the barking. The staff are friendly and accommodating.
Rupert’s of Silkstone is the dog grooming and pet supplies store, dogs are welcome inside and may even get a treat from the staff behind the counter, you could also meet Rupert himself - a pug - if he’s around. You can pick up anything from food, dog beds, toys or leads and harnesses. Sometimes Rupert’s hold parties for your dog, and we have been to a couple of sausage dog parties in the past, where they are allowed to run around the little outside area which has a few agility items to keep them occupied. The downside is this shop is up quite a steep hill, so might take a bit of effort if manually pushing, however the scooter managed fine.
There is a plant shop and greenhouse, quite large, with a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants, fully accessible and dogs allowed inside both the greenhouse and shop. They also have a lovely selection of cards within the shop.
Lastly, that we visit, is the small petting farm, free to visit - although a donation for any food is recommended - you can see some lovely pygmy goats and sheep, some of who might be roaming outside of the fences. There are also some chickens and a peacock who wander around aimlessly minding their own business. It is quite bumpy underfoot, as it is stones, but the scooter managed quite well, although we never take Betty to this bit as I don’t know how she would react with animals and don’t want to cause any distress.
There are a few other shops to visit including a clothes shop, jewellery shop and an indoor play area - but we have never been to these.
If you’re looking for somewhere for some food, or a nice cup of coffee and cake, I would highly recommend a visit, sitting in the lower area and then having a little mooch around, maybe even a treat from Rupert’s!
Tip - maybe consider quieter times as the bistro cafe can be quite busy.
